1. Pricing you can read before you pay

Joi doesn't publish a price list. Prices vary by region and promo, so every Joi number here was observed by third-party reviewers: about $17.77 a month, $26.66 for three months or $60.95 a year in one review, a little less in another. Neurons come on top, in observed packs from 500 for $11.99 to 10,000 for $119.99.

The harder part is knowing what each action costs. Joi's Terms give ceilings rather than prices: a photo is "up to 120" Neurons, a video "up to 1,900". No surprise, then, that unpredictable Neuron costs are a common complaint in reviews.

Xotic writes its prices down. Ultimate is $24.99 a month or $149.99 a year and includes 1,000 XOT each month. Elite is $74.99 a month or $449.99 a year. Subscribers can add XOT packs from 2,200 for $19.99 up to 110,000 for $499.99. Every action has a fixed cost: an image is 50 XOT on any model, a V1 clip is 150, a Girlfriend Experience message is 10.

Winner: Xotic. You can work out a month's bill before you spend anything.

2. Chat that doesn't run a meter

On Xotic, regular chat is unlimited on any paid plan. You choose the style, reply length, pacing (slow burn, natural or fast) and how explicit things get (Off, My lead, Suggestive, Explicit).

Joi's Terms price reading a romantic message at 4 Neurons, and how often that applies on Premium isn't spelled out. Reviewers also report messages capped at around 115 characters, which is a sentence or two. Slow-burn scenes need more room.

Xotic companions also keep a visible Memories list on their profile, while per third-party reviews, Joi's context runs to about 25 messages.

Winner: Xotic. Unlimited regular chat, real controls over pace and heat, and no counter ticking while you type.

3. Calls: by the minute, not by the block

Joi has a live call feature in beta. Its Terms mention video call streams, but Joi doesn't document what you actually see on the call. Third-party reviewers do report the billing: 2,000 Neurons per 5 minutes, charged in full even if you hang up early.

Xotic has two kinds of call, both at published rates. Voice calls run in your companion's own voice at 50 XOT a minute. Live video calls put you face to face with a dedicated animated avatar (Ashley, Yuna, Camila, Skylar, Zara and others) who talks, listens and reacts in real time, at 250 XOT per started minute on an Ultimate plan. 4. Video types

Joi makes short clips. Per third-party reviews, a 5-second Dream Clip costs 100 to 200 Neurons, plus 100 for each 5-second extension.

Xotic runs four video models:

• V1: clips of about 7.5 seconds from hundreds of preset actions, realistic or anime, for 150 XOT.
• V2: up to 30 seconds with sound, made in 5-second segments with 4K upscale included. 250 XOT for the first 5 seconds, then 100 for each extra 5.
• V3: describe any motion and animate it from a starting image, 500 XOT per 5 seconds.
• V4: a lip-synced talking portrait that says up to about 400 characters of your text, 100 XOT per second.

Winner: Xotic. Sound, custom motion and talking video, each with a published price.

5. The Girlfriend Experience

The Girlfriend Experience is a relationship sim, and we couldn't find an equivalent on Joi. Each girl (Avery, Sloane, Val and others) has moods, interests, an attachment style and a difficulty rating. She warms up or pulls back depending on how you treat her, remembers what you've told her, and notices when you've been gone, sometimes messaging you first.

There are relationship levels, gifts unlock exclusive content, and she sends photos when the moment's right. Each GFE message is 10 XOT.

Winner: Xotic. Most companions answer you. Avery has her own side of the relationship.

6. Worlds: play with real friends

Xotic's Worlds, launched in September 2026, puts 2 to 4 real people in one AI-run story. You host and invite up to three friends by link, or join a public room. A narrator and director AI keep the scene moving while the cast reacts to everyone at the table.

Stories can be SFW or NSFW, realistic or anime, like "The Resort" or "Academy of Arcana". Hosts get directing tools, and you can write and publish your own stories. Winner: Xotic. We couldn't find a way to bring a friend into a Joi chat. On Xotic, it's an invite link.

7. Privacy and your chats

Joi's Terms allow private chats to be disclosed in chargeback disputes. In plain English: dispute a charge, and your conversations can become part of the dispute. Session recordings may also go to Microsoft if you consent. To be fair, no Joi breaches have been reported.

Xotic doesn't use chat content in chargeback disputes, full stop. Your chats are never sent to third-party AI companies and never shown publicly. Private by default: nothing you make is published unless you choose to share it.

Winner: Xotic. Your conversations stay out of billing disputes and away from outside AI companies.

What Joi does well, and where it stops

Joi's character creator goes deep, and it's a real strength. Where it stops is after the build: your character lives in a one-on-one chat, with no friends in the room and no relationship sim that we could find. Xotic's creator covers looks, personality, voice and backstory too, with Worlds, the Girlfriend Experience and live avatar calls built around it.

Joi also licenses digital twins of 200+ real models, which is a genuine draw if one particular creator is why you're there. Xotic goes the other way on purpose: no real-person likenesses, no photo uploads, no "undress" tools. Your companion is yours, built from text, rather than a licensed version of a real person.

And Joi has scale, with over a million monthly active users by its own count (May 2026). Yet you still can't look up exactly what a call or clip will cost before you buy Neurons.

What your money gets you

Both platforms charge tokens for pictures, clips and calls, but Xotic prints a fixed rate for every action and Joi doesn't. And one Ultimate plan unlocks Worlds and the Girlfriend Experience, neither of which we could find on Joi at any price.
