Free AI Girlfriend Apps 2026 (What You Really Get)
Want a free AI girlfriend? Xotic AI's free tier resets daily, needs no card and isn't filtered. How every free tier compares, as of Oct 2026.
Free AI Girlfriend Apps in 2026: The Free Tier That Actually Lets You In
By the Xotic AI team · Updated 9 October 2026 · 10 min read
Type "free AI girlfriend" into a search bar and every result promises free. Then you sign up. Three messages in, a paywall slides over the chat. Or the "free trial" wants your card before she's said hello. Or the app is technically free, except every message costs a coin you don't have.
All of those get called free. Only one of them is a free tier you can actually live with, and most apps don't offer it.
We build Xotic AI, and we think ours is the free tier to start on. This guide shows why, and how the other big names handle "free," using each platform's pricing pages, help docs, terms and recent third-party reviews as of October 2026.
The short answer: Xotic AI has the real free tier. It resets every day, never asks for a card, lets you build your own character from scratch, and free chats aren't filtered, so explicit replies are possible on the free model. Five messages a day is a taster, enough to find out whether she's your type. When you want the relationship to really open up, unlimited messages on a paid plan are the natural next step.
Try it free: Create your companion on Xotic AI, 5 free messages a day, no card.
Three kinds of "free"
Before comparing apps, it helps to know which kind of free you're looking at.
A free tier is a permanent plan with limits. You can stay on it as long as you like. The good ones reset daily, so running out today doesn't lock you out for good.
A trial is a paid plan with the first charge pushed back. You hand over a card, get access for a while, and it bills automatically unless you cancel in time. Intro pricing works the same way: Candy AI's first month is $9.99, then it's $13.99. With any AI girlfriend free trial or promo, read what it renews at, not what it starts at.
Pay-per-message looks free but isn't really a tier. OurDream is the clearest case. Free users pay 1 dreamcoin per message, its own official pages disagree about how many free coins a new account gets, and coins can only be bought with an active subscription. Once your coins are gone, the free part is over.
The quick test: if it wants a card before you've used anything, it's a trial. If it doesn't, it's a real free tier, and the only question left is what that tier lets you do.

Free tiers only, as of October 2026. "Not stated" means we couldn't confirm it from the platform's own pages.
Xotic is the only row with a yes in every column. Here's what the others look like up close.
Candy AI: a five-message demo. Its Terms say free users get "generally a maximum of 5 messages," and third-party reviews describe the allowance as one-time. That's enough to see the interface. It isn't enough to know whether you'd still enjoy talking to her next week. Our Candy AI vs Xotic AI comparison goes further.
OurDream: every message costs a coin. There are no free messages as such, just dreamcoins spent one per message, and no image or video generation at all without a subscription. The official word on how many coins you start with contradicts itself, which is not a great sign for a free plan.
Kupid AI: 15 messages, then weekly billing. We couldn't find whether the 15 messages reset. Its paid plans bill by the week, at $12.99 a week, or $3.44 a week on the yearly plan.
SpicyChat and Janitor AI: free text, with catches. SpicyChat's free models come with ads and queues, so you wait your turn. Janitor AI is text only, with no images or video, runs on a short memory of about 9K context, keeps NSFW off by default in its app, and users report downtime.
Character.AI: free, and strictly SFW. Sexual content and nudity are banned, and paying for c.ai+ doesn't change that. If that's the deal-breaker, our NSFW Character.AI alternatives list picks up from there.
A few others worth knowing about: Kindroid's free Lite plan ended on 1 October 2026, per third-party reports. CrushOn gives 100 free credits a month but deletes chats after 7 days of inactivity. Joi AI starts you with 10 Neurons, per third-party reviews.
Why Xotic's free tier is the one to start with
Most free tiers are built to get you to the paywall as fast as possible. Ours is built so you can find out whether you actually like her.
It comes back every day. Five messages today, five more tomorrow, five the day after. A one-time allowance shows you the interface. A daily one shows you whether the conversation holds up across a week, which is the thing you actually want to know.
No card on the free plan. No trial clock running, no renewal date to put in your calendar, nothing to remember to cancel. You sign up and start talking.
You build her. The free plan includes one custom character: her looks, personality, voice and backstory, all yours to decide. Talking to someone you designed tells you far more about a platform than five messages to a stock character ever could.
Free chats aren't filtered. You chat on Ivy, our free model, and explicit replies are possible there. Free users don't get a filtered version of the chat.
What five messages a day can do
Let's be straight about it. Five messages a day is a taster, and it's meant to be.
In five messages you'll get a feel for her voice, how she reacts to you, and whether there's any chemistry. Over a few days you'll see whether she stays in character and picks up where you left off. That's a fair way to decide if Xotic is for you, and you never spend a cent finding out.
What five messages can't do is build a relationship. Getting from hello to the point where things turn spicy usually takes more than that, the same way it would with anyone. That's what the paid plan is for. Subscribers get unlimited messages to take things as far as they want, at whatever pace they want, with pacing that runs from slow burn to fast and an explicitness setting you control.
Think of free as the first date. Unlimited is where the relationship happens.
Getting the most from five messages a day
1. Build the character before you chat. Put real time into her personality and backstory. A well-built character needs less steering, which saves the messages you'd otherwise spend explaining who she is.
2. Make each message carry more. One message that sets the scene, says what you're doing and asks her something specific beats three short ones. On a five-a-day cap, that's the difference between a conversation and an exchange of greetings.
3. Come back tomorrow. The allowance resets daily, so treat it as an ongoing conversation rather than one sitting. Pick up the thread where you left it.
4. Elsewhere, set a reminder before you enter a card. If another app wants a card for a trial, find its cancel button first and put the renewal date in your calendar for the day before.

Why free tiers are tight
Every reply a companion sends runs on a GPU somebody is paying for. Long chats cost more than short ones, because the recent conversation gets fed back in with each new message so she stays in character. Reply 200 takes more work than reply 2. Pictures cost more again, video more than that, and a live video call, where she's animated, voiced and reacting in real time, is about as demanding as it gets.
So every free tier is a decision about how much compute to give away, and every paid plan is a decision about how much of that cost to take off your plate. On Xotic, the part you use most, everyday chat, stops being metered the moment you subscribe, and the same plan adds 1,000 XOT a month, live video calls and Worlds on top. That's the value.
What the paid plan gets you
Ultimate is $24.99 a month, or $149.99 a year (about $12.50 a month). Here's what that one plan unlocks:
- Unlimited regular chat on the paid chat models (Zara, Selene and Scarlet), with controls for style, reply length, pacing and explicitness.
- 1,000 XOT every month (yearly plans get 12,000 upfront) for images, video, calls, Girlfriend Experience messages and Worlds. Every cost is published in our docs, so you know what something costs before you tap.
- Live video calls with dedicated adult avatars like Ashley, Yuna and Camila, who talk, listen and react to you in real time. Voice calls with your companions too. More in our AI girlfriend video call guide.
- Worlds, multiplayer stories where you and up to three friends play SFW or NSFW scenes like The Resort or Academy of Arcana, with a narrator and director AI running the show. Here's how multiplayer roleplay works.
- The Girlfriend Experience, a relationship sim where she has moods and memories, warms up or pulls back depending on how you treat her, and may message you first after you've been away.
- Images and video in realistic and anime styles, including our Noir image model and four video models, with clips up to 30 seconds with sound and lip-synced talking video.
- Unlimited characters, kept private or published to the community Feed.
None of the other platforms in the table above documents live avatar video calls or NSFW stories with real friends. On Xotic, both come with the same plan that makes chat unlimited. That's the value case in one sentence: the upgrade lifts the message cap and adds features the other apps in that table don't document at any price.
A few practical notes. Live video calls need the Ultimate plan, and playing Worlds with friends needs a paid plan and an account at least 7 days old. Subscribers who generate a lot can add XOT packs, starting at 2,200 for $19.99, and there's a higher Elite tier at $74.99 a month or $449.99 a year. EU customers pay in EUR with VAT included. You can cancel any time from Settings → Subscription, and access runs to the end of the billing period.
The usual sign you're ready: you're out of messages before lunch most days, and you want to see where things go with her. Our best AI girlfriend apps ranking shows how the full plan stacks up against the rest.
Bottom line
If you want a free AI girlfriend in 2026, start on Xotic AI. It's the free tier that comes back every day, doesn't want your card, lets you build her yourself, and doesn't filter free chats. Use it to find out whether she's your type.
When five messages a day starts to feel short, that's the relationship asking for more room. Ultimate gives it unlimited chat, a monthly XOT allowance, live video calls and Worlds with your friends, all on one plan.
FAQ
Is there a completely free AI girlfriend app?
Several apps have free tiers, and all of them have limits. Xotic AI's free tier gives you 5 messages a day that reset daily, needs no card, lets you build your own character, and isn't filtered. Character.AI is free but SFW only, Janitor AI is free for text, and SpicyChat's free models come with ads and queues.
Is there a free NSFW AI girlfriend?
Yes. On Xotic AI, free chats aren't filtered, so explicit replies are possible on the free Ivy model within 5 messages a day, with no card needed. Subscribers get unlimited messages, plus images, video, live video calls and Worlds.
Does Xotic AI have a free plan?
Yes. Xotic's free plan gives you 5 messages a day on the Ivy chat model and one custom character, resets daily and doesn't need a card. Ultimate costs $24.99 a month or $149.99 a year as of October 2026 and adds unlimited chat, 1,000 XOT a month, live video calls and Worlds.
What's the difference between a free tier and a free trial?
A free tier is a permanent plan with limits, usually with no card required. A free trial is a paid plan with the first charge delayed, so it bills automatically unless you cancel. The quick test is whether the app asks for a card before you've used anything.
Can I get a free AI girlfriend with no sign up?
Plan on making an account. We couldn't confirm a no-account option on any platform in this guide, and an account is what keeps your character and chats tied to you. On Xotic, the free plan needs no card, and using a separate email for companion apps is a good habit anywhere.
Why are free AI girlfriend apps so limited?
Every reply costs the platform GPU compute, and longer chats cost more because earlier messages are processed again with each new one. Images, video and live calls cost far more than text. Free tiers are capped at whatever a platform is willing to give away, which is why unlimited chat lives on the paid plan.
