Candy AI vs Xotic AI (2026): Why People Are Switching
By the Xotic AI team · Updated 9 October 2026 · 11 min read
Candy AI is where a lot of people try their first AI companion. It's huge (around 63 million visits in July 2026, per a third-party estimate), the yearly plan is priced to get you in the door, and the pictures look good.
Then a few weeks go by and the wish list changes. You want to see her on a call, not just hear her. You want to pull a friend into the story. You want the relationship to pick up where it left off instead of looping back to small talk. Repetitive chats and weak long-term recall show up often in user complaints about Candy (per third-party reviews), and that's usually when the search for a Candy AI alternative starts.
The short answer: Xotic AI is our pick. Candy is built around texting and generated pictures and clips, while Xotic adds what we couldn't find on Candy at any price: real-time video calls with an animated avatar, multiplayer stories with real friends, and a Girlfriend Experience where she warms up, pulls back and remembers how you've treated her. Throw in talking video, a free tier that resets every day, and chats that are never sent to third-party AI providers, and one plan simply covers more. If all you want is low-cost text chat and a gallery, Candy will do, but for everything past that, Xotic is the better home.

Which one is for you
Stick with Candy AI if:
- You only want low-cost text chat and a gallery of pictures, and you don't care about live calls, talking video or bringing friends along.
Choose Xotic AI if:
- You want to see her on a call, live, not just hear her voice.
- You want a Friday-night story with real friends. Worlds seats two to four people, NSFW included.
- You want a relationship that changes depending on how you treat her.
- You want video that talks, or clips with sound.
- You want to try it properly first, with free messages every day and no card.
Head-to-head
1. Calls: hearing her vs seeing her
Candy launched "Live Call" in February 2026, and it's voice-only. The other feature with "live" in the name, Live Action, produces pre-generated clips: you ask, it renders, you watch. It's a video file, not a conversation.
Xotic does voice calls too, in your companion's own voice. Then it adds the part Candy doesn't have. You start a real-time, two-way video call with a dedicated animated avatar (Ashley, Yuna, Camila, Skylar and Zara are on Explore). She talks, listens and reacts as you speak, and the calls are NSFW-capable.
Live video calls are part of Ultimate and paid for in XOT. Our AI girlfriend video call guide rounds up the few apps offering anything close.
Winner: Xotic. Candy lets you hear her; Xotic lets you watch her react in real time.
2. Playing with friends
On Candy, it's you and one character. We found no group chat and no multiplayer mode.
Xotic has both. Group chats fit up to six AI characters in one conversation with you.
The bigger deal is Worlds, launched in September 2026. A host and up to three friends join the same AI-run story through an invite link or a public room, with a narrator and a director AI keeping the scene moving. Pick a ready-made story like "Academy of Arcana", "The Resort" or "Office Hours", realistic or anime, SFW or NSFW. Or write your own and publish it for others to play.
Playing with others needs a paid plan and an account at least seven days old. We couldn't find another platform that clearly documents both NSFW stories and multi-human rooms, and our multiplayer AI roleplay guide covers what else is out there.
Winner: Xotic. As far as we could find, Candy has no way to bring anyone else in.
3. A relationship that evolves
Candy markets "memory retention." Third-party reviewers paint a different picture: storylines tend to reset after 48 to 72 hours. If you've ever re-explained your backstory to a companion on day four, you know the feeling.
Xotic companions build memories from your conversations and bring them up later. Each one has a Memories list in her profile panel, with a running count, so you can see what she's kept.
The Girlfriend Experience builds a whole relationship on top of that. Each girl (Avery, Sloane, Val and others) has her own moods, interests, attachment style and difficulty rating. Treat her well and she warms up. Be careless and she pulls back. She's time-aware, so if you disappear for a week, she might message you first. There are relationship levels, gifts that unlock exclusive content, and photos she sends when the moment feels right.
Winner: Xotic. Candy gives you a character to talk to; the GFE gives you a relationship that keeps score.
4. Video that talks
Candy's video lineup is Live Action clips and Candy Shorts. Xotic runs four video models, each built for a different job:
- V1: about 7.5 seconds of text-to-video, with hundreds of preset actions, realistic or anime.
- V2: clips up to 30 seconds with sound, built in 5-second segments, 4K upscale included.
- V3: describe any motion you want, starting from an image.
- V4: a lip-synced talking portrait. Type up to about 400 characters and she says it on camera.
V4 is the one that surprises people: she speaks your script, lips in sync. We couldn't find a talking-video option in Candy's lineup.
Winner: Xotic. Four models to choose from, including one that actually speaks.
5. Chat you can steer
Both give paid users unlimited text, and Candy's character customization goes deep. Xotic adds control over how the conversation behaves once it starts.
You pick the style (Casual, Balanced or Immersive), the reply length, the pacing (slow burn, natural or fast) and the explicitness (Off, My lead, Suggestive or Explicit). Change your mind halfway through and you just flip the setting.
Winner: Xotic. On Candy you design her; on Xotic you also set the pace.
6. The free tier
Candy's Terms describe its free tier as "generally a maximum of 5 messages," and third-party reviews describe it as a one-time allowance.
Xotic's free tier is 5 messages too, except you get them every day. They reset daily, there's no card to enter, and you can build one custom character. Free chats aren't filtered, so explicit replies are allowed. A real connection takes more than five messages, which is where a subscription comes in: unlimited messages to take things as far as you want. Our free AI girlfriend guide compares free tiers across the category.
Winner: Xotic. Free messages that come back every day, with no card on file.
7. Privacy
Candy is run by EverAI Limited in Malta. Its privacy policy (revised 30 July 2026) says chat content may be shared with third-party LLM providers and, once de-identified, used for training. We didn't find an opt-out described.
Xotic is run by Xotic Tech OÜ in Estonia, and our answer fits in a sentence: your chats stay with Xotic and are never sent to third-party AI companies. We also never use chat content in chargeback disputes. Everything you create is private by default, and nothing is published unless you choose to.
Winner: Xotic. Your chats never go to an outside AI provider.
See who picks up: Meet Ashley, one of the avatars you can video call on Xotic Ultimate.
What Candy AI does well, and where it stops
Candy is good at visual consistency: its V2 image engine keeps a character's face and build recognizable across a whole gallery. The trouble is that the gallery is where it ends. Pictures and pre-generated clips are as close as you get to her, with no live video, no talking video and nobody else in the room. Pictures are covered on Xotic too. Noir, our image model launched in August 2026, is the most realistic on our platform and strong on backgrounds, and you get in-chat photo requests, Auto Snap, Image Vibe and a community Feed for the best ones.
Candy also lets you customize a character in detail. But however carefully you design her, she lives in a one-on-one chat, and reviewers report storylines sliding back to square one after a few days. The GFE is built on the opposite idea: the relationship builds, and she reacts to it.
What your money gets you
Candy AI pricing, as of October 2026: $13.99 month to month ($9.99 for the first month), $8.99 a month on the 3-month plan ($26.97), or $3.99 a month on the 12-month plan, billed as $47.88. Plans include unlimited text, a monthly token allowance, 18+ images and videos, custom characters and Live Action.
Xotic Ultimate is $24.99 a month or $149.99 a year. You get unlimited regular chat, unlimited character creation, and 1,000 XOT every month for images, video, calls, GFE messages and Worlds (yearly plans get all 12,000 XOT upfront). Extra XOT packs start at $19.99, and every cost is published in our XOT docs. The full breakdown is on our plans page.

Candy's plan covers text, pictures, clips and voice. Xotic Ultimate covers the same ground, then adds the parts that feel closest to a real person: a live call where she's on screen, a story night with friends, a girlfriend who notices when you've gone quiet. That's more for your money, with every cost published before you spend a single XOT.
How we compared them
We compared Candy's and Xotic's published pricing, features and policies as of October 2026, plus recent third-party reviews for user-reported issues. Prices change often, and regional pricing and taxes vary.
Bottom line
If you've outgrown Candy, it's probably not the pictures. It's that you want more from a companion than texts and a gallery.
Xotic is built around that. Tonight it's a live video call where she reacts to every word; on Friday it's a story with your friends in Worlds. Add the GFE and talking video, plus a privacy promise that fits in one line, and it's the most complete package for adults we know of.
Our pick is Xotic, and with a free tier that resets every day, finding out costs nothing. For a wider view, see the best AI girlfriend apps and the best Candy AI alternatives.
