7 Multiplayer AI Roleplay Sites to Play With Friends

Most multiplayer AI roleplay is one person and a few bots. Here are 7 platforms where real friends share one story, including NSFW, in 2026.

Multiplayer AI Roleplay in 2026: Where You Can Actually Play With Friends

By the Xotic AI team · Updated 9 October 2026 · 12 min read

Here's how it usually goes. You and a couple of friends want to run an AI story together. You search for multiplayer AI roleplay, find an app with "group chat" on the feature list, sign up, and discover the group is you plus five bots.

That's the open secret of this category. Most group chat in AI companion apps is one human and several AI characters. Fun, sometimes, but your friends aren't in it. Rooms where several real people share one story are rare. Rooms that also allow adult stories are rarer still, and that's the gap we built Xotic Worlds to fill.

So yes, Worlds is #1 here. The rest of this list is what you'd find if you went looking elsewhere, with what each one allows and where it stops.

Quick picks:

  • Adults who want SFW or NSFW stories with real friends: Xotic Worlds
  • An AI narrator that runs the scene while the host directs: Xotic Worlds
  • Writing your own story and publishing it for others to play: Xotic Worlds
  • SFW-only group chat for a big crew: Character.AI
  • All-ages party game: Voyage

Try it free: Create your companion on Xotic AI, 5 free messages a day, no card. When your friends are in, start a story in Worlds.

Both get called "group roleplay." They're different products.

Xotic sits in both columns. Group chats put you in a scene with up to six AI characters when you're on your own, and Worlds is for the nights your friends are around. This post is about the right-hand column.

How we judged them

We went through each platform's pricing pages, help docs, terms and recent reviews as of October 2026. What mattered:

  • Real humans, plural. Can two or more people actually share one story?
  • What the story is allowed to be. SFW only, adult stories allowed, or not stated.
  • Who runs the table. A narrator or game master that keeps things moving, plus host controls for when it drifts.
  • What you can make. Play other people's stories, or build and publish your own.

The platforms

1. Xotic Worlds

Best for: adults who want story-driven roleplay with real friends, SFW or NSFW.

Worlds launched in September 2026, and it's the multiplayer AI roleplay we wanted to exist. A host and up to three friends (2–4 real players) share one story. You bring friends in with an invite link, or jump into a public room and play with whoever's there.

Two AIs run the table, a narrator and a director, handling the story and the AI cast between them. Nobody has to be the one who preps, and nobody has to play five side characters at once. You write your turn, and the cast's replies come with it.

The library covers a lot of ground, from "The Resort" and "Office Hours" to fantasy like "Academy of Arcana," "The Demon Queen's Castle" and "The Summoner's Contract." Stories come in realistic or anime style, and the library mixes SFW and NSFW, so the same group can play something light one night and something spicier the next.

The host gets real tools. Move the scene somewhere new, drop in a narrator beat when the plot stalls, whisper private direction to the AI cast, manage seats, and end the story when you're done. At any good moment you can snap a scene picture of where the story's got to. And when you're stuck on what to write, "craft my turn" drafts your move for free.

Then there's the creator side: you can build your own story from scratch and publish it for other groups to play. If it's good, share it on the Community Feed along with your best scene pictures.

The reason Worlds is #1 for adults is simple. Character.AI and Voyage are SFW. AI Dungeon has a Mature setting for text adventures, and Friends & Fables is M-rated fantasy. We couldn't find another platform that clearly documents NSFW multiplayer rooms.

Worlds is also part of a bigger account. The same subscription covers unlimited one-on-one chat, the Girlfriend Experience relationship sim, four video models and, on Ultimate, live avatar video calls (more in our AI girlfriend video call guide). Your chats are never sent to third-party AI companies, and nothing you make is published unless you choose to.

Price (Oct 2026): included with a paid plan. Ultimate is $24.99/month or $149.99/year (about $12.50/month), with 1,000 XOT a month. Each action is 10 XOT with the AI cast's replies included, a scene picture is 50 XOT, "craft my turn" is free, and your first regenerate is free. Every rate is on our XOT costs page.

Good: 2–4 real players in one story; SFW and NSFW stories; narrator plus director AI; realistic or anime; host directing tools; scene pictures; free "craft my turn"; create and publish your own stories; invite links or public rooms.

Good to know: playing with others requires a paid plan and an account at least 7 days old.

Verdict: the pick for adults, by a distance. Nothing else we found clearly documents real friends, an AI narrator and NSFW stories in the same room.

2. Character.AI group chat

Best for: SFW-only group chat with a big crew.

Character.AI's Group Chat fits up to 10 humans and 10 characters in one room, joined by invite link, and it's free.

The limits are firm. Sexual content is banned, there's no adult mode, and paying for c.ai+ doesn't unlock one. Open-ended chat for under-18s ended on 25 November 2025, and third-party reports from August 2026 describe some adults getting locked out by date-of-birth prompts. If you want something spicier, see our Character.AI alternatives for NSFW.

Price (Oct 2026): free; c.ai+ is $9.99/month or $94.99/year (App Store).

Good: up to 10 humans per room; free; invite links.

Not so good: strictly SFW, even on c.ai+; age-check friction reported by some adults (third-party).

Verdict: fine for a big SFW group, and a dead end the moment the story wants to grow up.

3. Kindroid Rooms

Best for: groups who already use Kindroid companions.

Kindroid launched Rooms on 23 September 2026: up to 10 people and 11 Kins (its AI characters) in one space. Only subscribers can post. Don't confuse it with Kindroid's group chats, which are one user with several Kins.

Kindroid allows erotic roleplay for verified adults on paid plans, but whether that applies inside Rooms is unverified, and its apps ship through app stores that ban nudity.

Price (Oct 2026): $13.99/month on web ($15.99 in-app) or $139.99/year. The free Lite plan ended on 1 October 2026, per third-party reports.

Good: large rooms; native apps.

Not so good: about two weeks old; NSFW in Rooms unverified; app-store nudity rules; only subscribers can post.

Verdict: a companion hangout for existing Kindroid users, not a documented adult story room.

4. AI Dungeon

Best for: a group text adventure.

AI Dungeon lets friends join a game with an 8-digit code, there's no set player limit, and only the host needs premium. There's a "Mature" setting for adults.

It's a text adventure, not a companion or character story. Think shared choose-your-own-adventure rather than a scene with characters you care about.

Price (Oct 2026): free for players who join; the host needs a premium tier ($9.99 to $49.99).

Good: only the host pays; no set player cap; Mature setting for 18+.

Not so good: text adventure format; not built around companions or characters.

Verdict: good for a choose-your-own-adventure night, less so for character-driven roleplay.

5. Friends & Fables

Best for: a fantasy tabletop night with an AI game master.

Friends & Fables is a fantasy TTRPG with an AI game master. The free plan supports parties of 3, and the $39.95 Legend tier goes up to 6. It's rated M, but whether explicit content is allowed is unverified.

Price (Oct 2026): free for 3 players; Legend $39.95 for parties of up to 6.

Good: game-master structure; free for small parties.

Not so good: fantasy only; top tier needed for 6 players; explicit content unverified.

Verdict: for dice-and-dungeons groups. Anyone wanting something other than fantasy will run out of road.

6. Voyage by Latitude

Best for: free, all-ages parties.

Voyage, from Latitude, runs public parties of up to 8 people, it's free, and it's positioned as all-ages. Easy to recommend for a casual game, and no help at all for anything spicy.

Price (Oct 2026): free.

Good: free; parties of up to 8.

Not so good: all-ages, so nothing adult; little documented beyond party size.

Verdict: a quick SFW game, and nothing more.

7. Shapes

Best for: casual group chats where friends and AI hang out.

Shapes puts humans and AI in the same group chats, and it's free. We couldn't verify a maximum room size or its NSFW rules.

Price (Oct 2026): free.

Good: free; real people and AI in one chat.

Not so good: room size and content rules unverified; thin documentation.

Verdict: low-stakes group chat, not structured roleplay.

One more for families: Hidden Door does asynchronous, family-friendly stories, so nobody has to be online at the same time.

How a Worlds session runs

Here's the flow from start to finish.

The host picks a story. Browse the published stories ("The Resort," "Academy of Arcana" and the rest), each in realistic or anime style. There are SFW and NSFW options, so pick with the group, not for it. Or build your own from scratch and publish it later.

Friends join. The host shares an invite link and up to three friends take a seat. Prefer new people? Play in a public room instead.

You take turns. Each player writes what their character does or says, and the story moves on. An action costs 10 XOT, and the AI cast's replies are included. Stuck? "Craft my turn" drafts one for you for free. Don't like a reply? Your first regenerate is free.

The narrator and the host steer. The narrator and director AI keep the scene and the AI characters moving on their own. The host can step in any time: move the scene, drop a narrator beat to push the plot along, whisper private direction to the cast, manage seats, and end the story when you're done.

Snap a scene. At any good moment, generate a scene picture of where the story is. Nothing goes public unless you choose to share it, but if the group wants, you can post pictures, roleplay moments or the whole story to the Feed.

Tips for a good group session

Agree on boundaries before the first scene. Settle how spicy the story gets and what's off the table. It takes two minutes and saves the awkward stop halfway through. If one person wants SFW, the story is SFW.

Let one person host, and let them direct. The host has narrator beats and scene moves for a reason. Four people all steering the plot in-story is how you end up with chaos and nobody having fun.

Keep turns short and pass the spotlight. A three-line action that leaves a hook for someone else beats a wall of text. If one player is getting all the AI's attention, the host can nudge the cast with a whisper.

Fix drift with tools, not arguments. When the story wanders, a narrator beat or a scene move usually snaps it back faster than debating it in character.

Keep spicy stories to people you know. Use an invite link for NSFW stories with friends who've opted in, and save public rooms for when you're happy playing with strangers.

Bottom line

Most "group roleplay" is you and a handful of bots. Of the platforms where real people share one story, Character.AI and Voyage are SFW, Kindroid Rooms' adult status is unverified, and AI Dungeon and Friends & Fables are built around text adventures and fantasy campaigns.

If you're adults and want story-driven roleplay with real friends, SFW or NSFW, Xotic Worlds is the pick. You get a narrator and director AI running the table, host tools for when it drifts, realistic or anime stories, scene pictures, and the option to write your own story and publish it. FAQ

Can you do AI roleplay with friends?

Yes. As of October 2026, Xotic Worlds lets 2–4 real players share one AI-narrated story, SFW or NSFW, joined by invite link or public rooms. Character.AI group chat, Kindroid Rooms, AI Dungeon, Friends & Fables and Voyage also have multi-human rooms, but they're SFW, text adventures, fantasy campaigns, or unclear on adult content.

Is there NSFW AI roleplay with friends?

Yes. Xotic Worlds supports SFW and NSFW stories for 2–4 real players, in realistic or anime style. We couldn't find another platform that clearly documents NSFW multiplayer rooms: Character.AI and Voyage are SFW, Kindroid Rooms' NSFW status is unverified, and AI Dungeon's Mature setting applies to text adventures.

What's the difference between AI group chat and multiplayer roleplay?

In most companion apps, group chat means one human talking with several AI characters at once. Multiplayer roleplay means several real people share the same story, with the AI running the narration and the cast. Xotic offers both: group chats with up to six AI characters, and Worlds for playing with friends.

Do my friends need to pay to play Xotic Worlds with me?

Yes. Worlds isn't on Xotic's free tier, and playing with others requires a paid plan and an account at least 7 days old. Inside a story, each action is 10 XOT with the AI cast's replies included, and "craft my turn" is free.

Can I make my own multiplayer AI story?

On Xotic Worlds, yes. You can build a story from scratch, play it with friends, and publish it so other groups can play it too. You can also share scene pictures and story moments on the Xotic Community Feed.

What's the best multiplayer AI roleplay for adults?

Our pick is Xotic Worlds. A host and up to three friends share one story, SFW or NSFW, in realistic or anime style, with a narrator and director AI running the cast and host tools to steer the scene. We couldn't find another platform that clearly documents NSFW multiplayer rooms.
